Stephen E. McManus, 48, of Stoneham died April 26, 2017, after a short illness. He was born in Revere to Robert E. and Caroline (Taylor) McManus, and was the dear "little" brother of Joseph E. McManus of Stoneham. He was a 1986 graduate of Stoneham High School, and earned certificates in electrical and locksmithing from the Peterson School in Woburn and his CDL from the Parker School in Avon.
For the past 12 years, Steve shared his life with his beloved companion, Sara Thompson and her children, Camila Devlin, Dean Storm, Natessa Storm and Liana Thompson, as well as, his dogs Mouse and Rosie and his birds.
For many years, Steve worked as a cook in numerous restaurants; it was truly his passion. He was fondly called "pizzaman" by many who loved him. In more recent years, Steve worked driving a tri-axle dump truck and was proud of his professionalism and safety record. Steve was an avid gardener and loved to have his hands in the earth. His sunflowers grew taller than he was! He also enjoyed spending time with animals, feeding the birds, going to yard sales, antiquing, doing home improvement projects, riding his John Deere lawn tractor, spending time on Cape Cod, watching the Bruins, playing World of Warcraft and joking and laughing with all of his many friends.
Steve was a talented musician and composer, playing guitar and mulltiple other instruments. He played with Cold Front and Molasses Flood and collaborated with many friends and local musicians. His solo album is entitled "What Do You Want".
As well as his parents and brother, companion Sara and children, Steve leaves his aunts and uncles, Ed and Cathy Taylor of North Reading and Joe and Deborah Taylor of Stoneham and cherished cousins Wendy Richardson, Ed Taylor, Michael Taylor, Mary Taylor, Christopher Taylor Arrington and Matthew Taylor. Steve was loved by so many and was a friend to all. He will be particularly missed by his friends, Jeff Marquis and Todd Smith, along with many, many more who will fondly remember "Mitchy".
Funeral from the Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham,on Tuesday at 8 A. M., followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9 A.M. Interment in Lindenwood Cemetery. Visitation, at the funeral home,will be held Monday, 4-8 P.M. Those desiring may make a memorial gift in Steve’s name to the VNA of Middlesex-East, Sawtelle Hospice House, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
