Mary Irene (Moynihan) Doyle, 76, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 12, 2015, after a year-long battle with cancer. Born on October 29, 1938, she grew up in North Andover and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Lawrence in 1956. After high school, Mary enrolled in St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing where she graduated as an R.N. in 1959. She spent her career at Lawrence General Hospital (1959-61), Malden Hospital (1961-76) and J.B. Thomas Hospital (1976-87).
Ann and Adrian Doyle introduced Mary to Ron Doyle; they married on October 28, 1961. By 1970, after having two daughters, Mary and Ron committed themselves to caring for foster babiies with Catholic Charities. Over the next twenty-five years, she loved and cared for more than 100 infants as if they were her own until they found their permanent home, whether for a couple of weeks or a couple of years. Life at the Doyle house was full of cooing, bottlefeeding and diaper-changing. Each child went to their adoptive family with a photo album and special gifts from their time at 6 Myrtle Street. Mary and Ron adopted one of these foster children, Stephen.
An avid reader, Mary was especially fond of mysteries. She was active at the Stoneham Public Library as both patron and volunteer. She devoted much of her time every fall to baking and carefully wrapping her delicious goods for the annual bake sale; many library patrons eagerly anticipated the arrival of her brownies and chicken pot pies. Besides baking, Mary was devoted to celebrating holidays and other special occasions, taking care to promptly send cards to loved ones with her beautiful and precise penmanship.
After retiring from nursing and foster care, she volunteered at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for years until she was stolen to work for Dr. David Seigenberg. She throughly enjoyed working at his office where she always made sure there were festive holiday decorations for the staff and patients.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Ronald J. Doyle and her children, daughter Maura Doyle with son-in-law Christopher Snyder, daughter Stacy Doyle, and son Peter Bayle with daughter-in-law Sheri, as well as many family and friends. She is also the cherished "Grammy" of three granddaughters, Clare, Tess and Meg Snyder.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham followed by internment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visitation: Wednesday, 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Stoneham Library.
